Arnold Freiman, Ph.D., M.Div., M.Ed., CFPCEO, Chief Strategy Officer
Founder and the visionary behind EHP. Arnold Freiman’s extensive education, combined with his background as an educator, financial planner, and entrepreneur have all prepared him to see new possibilities in the integration of health insurance and wellness products. He has a graduate degree from the University of Massachusetts where he designed “Integral Medicine for the Whole Self,” the first holistic healing educational curriculum at a major university.
As his studies in natural healing, led him to became intrigued with Chinese Medicine, Dr. Freiman went on to earn a degree in acupuncture and later co-founded the first licensed school of acupuncture in the U.S. Freiman moved West to pursue a divinity degree from the Graduate Theological Union and has also served as a hospital chaplain.
In 1986, after recovering from a personal health crisis, Arnie founded Partners Financial, an insurance brokerage firm noted for designing creative models of health coverage and employee benefit plans, often for clients with special needs. In the late-1990′s, Arnie expanded the focus of his firm to include preventive education and broader support for individuals taking responsibility for their lifestyle and health choices. This comprehensive approach to wellness, integrates the five elements: Physical, Financial, Spiritual, Self, and Relationships. Arnie studied and further developed this innovative integrative model at the Union Institute and University.
Arnie’s vision was to build EHP to meet the rapidly expanding demand for alternatives to managed care and gatekeeper medicine—a demand being expressed by healthcare providers, insurance brokers, employers, and the general public. At the core of this vision is his continued effort as chairman and chief strategy officer of EHP to help the most people gain balance and integrate all aspects of well being into their daily lives.
Vanessa Esteves, N.D., MBADirector of Corporate Health Programs
Vanessa Esteves is a Physician with a Masters Degree in Business focusing on corporate healthcare management. She is dedicated to the health of businesses and promoting wellness initiatives within companies through innovative products and concepts that positively impact corporate growth and sustainability. Vanessa is dedicated to the field of health, wellness and prevention.
Her unique balance of clinical healthcare experience and knowledgeable business practices make her a leader strategic planning and management that will result in economic successes for clients. Vanessa has been educating patients with wellness and preventative medical care through lectures and seminars through her clinical practice.
Harry F. Swope, MBA, ND, DHANP, CCHBusiness Development Director
Dr. Swope graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon and received the Clinic Achievement Award for Excellence in the Practice of Homeopathy. He was one of the initial group to receive their Naturopathic Doctor’s license in California where he participated in the licensing effort as a member of the board of the California Naturopathic Doctors Association.
Prior to entering the health-care field, Dr. Swope had an extensive career in corporate finance and information systems that included being Director of Corporate Systems Development in two “Fortune 500″ companies. Since then, he has sought to apply his business and organizational skills to strengthening the practice of complementary medicine. His current focus is helping companies reduce health care costs for their employees.
Dr. Swope holds an MBA from the Darden School of The University of Virginia, and a BA, with distinction, in economics from The University of Virginia. Between those years, he was an officer on active duty with the US Navy.
He is currently a board member and Treasurer of the American Medical College of Homeopathy, in Phoenix, AZ. He is a past board member and Vice President of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. He is a past board member and Vice President of the National Center for Homeopathy.
Dr. Swope was a physician participant in the UCLA study of homeopathy sponsored by the NIH Office of Alternative Medicine, an invited speaker at White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy in 2001, and an invited presenter to the Institute of Medicine in 2003.
Dr. Swope is a member of the American Holistic Medical Association, the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the California Naturopathic Doctors Association, the Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians, and the California Homeopathic Medical Society (which was founded in 1877)..
Paula SmallOffice Manager/Client Services Representative
Paula Small is the newest member of Team Elements. She joins Elements Health Plans as Office Manager/Client Services Representative, bringing over 15 years of experience in accounting, finance, administration, and human resources.
Prior to joining Elements, she owned a business management consultancy for small to mid-sized companies. She worked in other accounting and management roles in California, before happily trading the golden sunshine of Los Angeles for the silvery skies of Portland.
Paula has a passion for the arts and has followed that passion from Los Angeles to London to Portland. She is proud to be a member of a team dedicated to putting health back into health insurance!
Paula is a Business Economics alumna of the University of California.
In House Actuary
As a Principal and Senior Consulting Actuary, Kelly Grebinsky utilizes his 20-plus years of experience to lead strategic client discussions and guide the development of health and welfare benefit programs. His current and former clients include Fortune 100 employers, Taft-Hartley trusts, multiple-employer trusts and insurance carriers. His expertise covers strategic health program planning, complex pricing for active and retiree populations, development and measurement of wellness and care management programs, health benefit financial reporting, and data warehouse development and analysis.
Prior to Actuaries Northwest, Kelly spent six years with SHPS in their Strategic Healthcare consulting division as a Senior Consultant, with responsibilities including client management, strategic benefit program development, benefit plan pricing and risk management, claim cost analytic tool development, and care management program measurement and reporting.
Prior to SHPS, Kelly performed chief actuarial duties in pricing and financial analysis with Kaiser Permanente in California from 1996 to 1999. Responsibilities encompassed large group, small group, and individual plan pricing and financial performance, as well as Medicare HMO and other government programs.
Before Kaiser Permanente, Kelly performed pricing, underwriting and financial reporting responsibilities at North American Life Assurance Company and The Cooperator’s Life Insurance Company in Canada from 1989 – 1996.
Kelly graduated cum laude from the University of Manitoba, majoring in Business and Actuarial Sciences. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries.
Vadim GoncharovWeb Marketing/IT/Web & Graphic Designer
Vadim has been a self-taught freelance web and graphic designer for the past 8 years. He has an extensive knowledge in current web standards and trends. Over the past years he has developed and launched dozens of websites and has built a name for himself in the industry. His success revolves around an outstanding work ethics and a passion for design. Every project is unique and requires a specific set of skills, Vadim is well capable of putting on different hats and making sure that every project meets its goals.
Elements Health Plans requires just that unique and special attention. Vadim’s responsibilities are to oversee Elements’ online web marketing. He has also taken the responsibility to make sure all the design related materials meet creative as well as professional needs.
Vadim is currently attending The Art Institute of Portland to obtain his bachelors of Computer Science degree in web and graphic design.
Chief Financial Officer
Erin’s combined proficiency maximizes her know knowledge and skills in guiding Elements and therefore, clients alike. Erin has obtained her law degree from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College and her B.S. in accounting from Portland State University. She is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of CPAs.
